Komos
Komos lies on the south coast of Crete, east of Matala. The beach of Komos is charming and unspoiled and the Caretta-Caretta tortoises use its fine golden sand to lay their eggs.
Komos was the port of the ancient Minoan city of Phaestos and the remains of this old Minoan harbour lie a few meters away from the beach.
Findings from the Greek era were unearthed in Komos as well, with the most important being a temple built in the 10th century and it’s the oldest known in Greece.
