Ierapetra

Ierapetra is the biggest town on the south coast of Crete. Built on the longest beach of the island, facing Africa, is the southernmost town of Europe. Ierapetra is famous for its mild climate with a temperature that rarely drops below 12C all year long and an average number of sunshine that exceeds 340 days a year. This area is one of the most important vegetable-growing centres in Greece. The intense cultivation of off season vegetable as well as tomatoes, cucumbers, bananas and melons is the major source of income for the locals.
